My name is Melina Starr and MKIA is my version of the perfect online magazine. I created it for women like me who are interested in fashion, home décor, music, cooking, beauty, health and fitness and want thoughtful, researched advice on what’s worth buying and trying. Oh, and we want it to be one-click away too. That’s why everything on MKIA can be read, downloaded, purchased, or obtained in some other magical way online.
The site was originally the brainchild of me and my cousin, Lauren Mendell. We worked on it together while we both lived in New York in 2009. By the end of 2010 Lauren was quickly moving up the ranks at Bravo TV (her day job). Since then Lo has been on an MKIA sabbatical and, while it has not been the same without her, she will hopefully come back to grace us with her impeccable style and and sage advice.
A little bit about me:
I am 32 years old and live in Dallas with my husband of five years. We moved here from New York, where I grew up, last spring and in July I had our twins – William and Charlotte. While my husband moves forward in his career, mine is getting a makeover. I spent the last ten years in real estate development and marketing, primarily focused on the luxury residential market. Instead of slogging through the downturn with little to do in my field, I am taking a pause and using the skills I learned as an executive to create this blog about all the things that I like. And now that I am a mom, I have fun new arenas to research and explore.
My long-lived obsession with magazines (and more recently other blogs) helps me come up with content and recommendations but I try to be as original as possible and create post topics that I would want to read myself. I have lots of contributors from all the other Miss Know It Alls in my life – mothers, aunts, cousins, and best friends. These intelligent, passionate women are why I thought of MKIA and whom it is for – because inside every one of us is a Miss Know It All. Just ask the men in our lives!
